This week: We're exploring how adding color filters and tints to your devices can make you more productive. We’ll even show you how to set them up! Let’s jump in.
🧑‍🔬 The Science Behind Color Filters & Tints
Originally designed as an accessibility feature, changing the color filter (or tint) on your phone can improve everything from your focus to your sleep.
Grayscale filters, which drain all color from your device, are the most researched. A recent study found that using a grayscale filter for 1 week resulted in:
“Significantly reduced” screen time
Lower stress levels
Better self-awareness of smartphone use
Beyond grayscale, scroll on to see how all the different colors on your phone’s screen can affect your productivity and wellness!
🎨 How to Use Color Filters & Tints for Max Productivity
Which filter should you use? Let’s explore the most popular light filters and how they benefit your health and productivity.
⚫️ Grayscale
Best for reducing screen time
A grayscale filter (aka black and white) drains the color from your screen, making your phone less enticing and stimulating. Many people swear by the grayscale filter for reduced screen time and improved focus.
đź”´Â Red
Best for working at night or improving sleep
Your device likely already has a warm setting to filter out blue light, which is notorious for disrupting sleep and increasing eye strain. To take it up a notch, add a red tint to your phone screen for better sleep, sharper night vision, and improved focus during those late-night study or work sessions.
If you’re a late night scroller before bed, using a red filter is a practical compromise.
🟢 Green
Best for boosting concentration and calm
Use a green tint or filter when you need a pick-me-up. Green is the easiest color on the eyes — it’s also proven to help us feel calm, focused, and more relaxed.
